The idea
A point-to-point shuttle for hikers, backpackers and thru-hikers across the Southern Vermont trail network — the Long Trail, the Appalachian Trail and the regional day-hike system. Drop at one trailhead, get collected at another, and stop planning your day around getting back to your car.
Southern Vermont carries both the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail, and the best sections of both are point-to-point rather than loops. Without a shuttle you either hike it twice or spend the day negotiating a car swap. We run scheduled pickups at the far trailhead so you can just walk.
Thru-hikers get resupply runs into Manchester and Bennington, and we will hold a resupply box for you at no charge. Our Jeeps reach the rough forest-road trailheads that a sedan cannot, and there is room for full packs, dogs and muddy boots — we expect all three.
Highlights
- Long Trail and Appalachian Trail sections
- Resupply runs into Manchester and Bennington
- Winter snowshoe and ski-touring access
- Emergency early-exit pickup if plans change
Good to know
- Give us your planned pace and we will build in a sensible buffer at the pickup.
- Cell service is unreliable out there. We agree on a time and we are there.
- Muddy, wet and dog-covered is entirely expected. Get in.
