The idea
Consulting and hands-on trail work for landowners, land trusts and municipalities across Southern Vermont. We route, cut, grade and maintain sustainable trails for hiking, riding, skiing or vehicle access, built to drain properly and survive mud season rather than wash out in the first spring thaw.
Most trail failures are drainage failures. A trail cut straight down a fall line becomes a stream the first serious spring, and no amount of later repair fixes a route that was wrong from the start. We survey the ground first, route with grade reversals and proper sidehill, and build something that holds.
Services run from a half-day consultation and flagged route through to full construction and a multi-year maintenance agreement. We work with private landowners opening up their acreage, land trusts building public access, and towns developing recreation assets. Access roads for remote camps and cabins are a regular part of the work.
