The idea

A proper four-hour off-road driving course on genuine Vermont terrain — rock, mud, water crossings, steep ascents and off-camber descents. Learn low range, tire pressure, line selection, throttle control and self-recovery. Drive our Jeep or bring your own and learn what it can really do.

Most people who own capable four-wheel drives have never used more than a fraction of what the vehicle can do, usually because nobody ever showed them and the consequences of experimenting alone are expensive. This course fixes that in an afternoon, in a controlled environment, with an instructor in the passenger seat.

We start on easy terrain covering fundamentals — low range, throttle discipline, why you air down — then progress through rock gardens, a water crossing, a mud section and a steep technical climb. The final hour is recovery: winching, traction boards, strap safety and how to get yourself unstuck without wrecking anything. Students who bring their own vehicles get specific instruction on their setup.

Highlights

  • Low range and throttle control that finally makes sense
  • Reading and choosing a line before you commit
  • Airing down, and why it changes everything
  • Self-recovery you can actually perform alone

Good to know

  • Valid drivers license required. Minimum age 18 to drive.
  • Own-vehicle students: four-wheel drive with low range strongly recommended.
  • Expect the vehicle to get filthy. That is the course working correctly.
