Mount Equinox stands 3,848 feet over Manchester — the highest peak in the Taconic Range and the thing everybody in town orients by. It is also a decent metaphor for how we think about Vermont: most people photograph it from the bottom, and almost nobody bothers to go up.
The company started the way a lot of Vermont businesses do: with a vehicle, a frustration, and a friend who needed a ride. Visitors kept asking where the covered bridges were, where to shoot the foliage, how to get to the trailhead on a road their rental car would not survive. The honest answer was always the same — you need four wheel drive, a bit of clearance, and somebody who knows which turn to take.
So we started driving people. First to overlooks, then to sugarhouses, then to proposal spots and pick-your-own farms and holiday light routes and one very memorable prom. Twenty-two distinct experiences later, the premise has not changed: get people past the pavement, and let Vermont do the rest.
We are still small on purpose. Every departure is private, every trip is run by an actual guide rather than a recording, and the itinerary bends around what you want to see and what the weather is doing. If a farm stand is having a good morning, we stop. If the fog breaks over the valley, we pull over. That flexibility is the entire product.
