The idea

A working tour of Southern Vermont agriculture that changes completely with the calendar: strawberries and blueberries in summer, apples and pumpkins in autumn, and pick-your-own Christmas trees once the snow arrives. We visit two or three family farms, you pick whatever is in season, and the Jeep hauls it all home — tree included.

Vermont farms are generous with visitors but hard to string together without local knowledge, since the good ones are down unmarked dirt roads and half of them only post their hours on a hand-painted sign at the end of the driveway. We know which fields are ripe this week and which farm stand has the cider doughnuts worth the detour.

In December this becomes the Christmas tree run. You walk the rows, pick your tree, and we cut it, net it, strap it to the Jeep and deliver it to your door or your rental. It is the most efficiently festive two hours available in Bennington County.

Highlights

  • Strawberries and blueberries, June through August
  • Apples, cider doughnuts and pumpkins in autumn
  • Sugarhouse visits during the spring maple run
  • Cut-your-own Christmas trees, delivered home

Good to know

  • Crops run on weather, not on calendars. We will tell you honestly what is ready.
  • Wear boots you do not mind getting muddy. Fields are fields.
  • Christmas tree delivery covers the Manchester, Dorset, Arlington and Bennington area.
